Discourse Debate workshops
Discourse is an annual debate workshop run by Shakir Rahim at the University of Toronto since 2010. Discourse (Junior) for students entering Gr. 6-8 will be held from August 18-22 between 10:00 AM-4:30 PM daily and Discourse (Senior) for students entering Gr. 9-12 will be held from August 25-29 between 10:00 AM-4:30 PM daily.
Discourse is an ideal way to prepare students for the upcoming debate season and focuses on three foundational debate components: argumentation, content, and delivery. The workshops will blend seminars, individual and group exercises, and practice debates in multiple styles to develop and strengthen skills. Registration is limited to 16 students in each workshop on a first-come first-served basis.
Shakir is an independent debate coach for private students and schools such as the University of Toronto Schools (UTS) and St. Andrew’s College (SAC), and was a debate coach at Branksome Hall from 2008-2013. He is also the 2006 and 2007 World Individual Public Speaking and Debating Champion.
